Most cemeteries have an overall site plan. This plan can assure continuity between development phases or may be necessary for local jurisdiction permitting. Our civil engineers and land surveyors can assist in developing plans for the future of your cemetery with thoughtful consideration given to transportation, drainage, landscape, and support buildings. Our environmental scientists can also analyze soil, hydrology, and vegetation criteria to identify and delineate any and all wetlands on your site for future expansions.
Since 1997, Ramaker & Associates (RAMAKER) has provided more than 1000 cemeteries with our custom-tailored, computer software application specifically designed for cemeteries called the Cemetery Information Management System (CIMS). CIMS links all of your cemetery data to computerized maps of your cemetery, allowing you to interact with your map to access your data. Instead of retrieving your cemetery data from multiple sources, CIMS integrates it all into one easy-to-use information store.

Prairie Home Cemetery
Prairie Home Cemetery had been using a paper-based system for managing their cemetery records for many years, but knew there had to be a better way. Their cemetery information was in a cumbersome format that was no longer suiting their needs, and the desire to streamline led them to research their options. After discovering everything that CIMS had to offer, the City of Waukesha knew that CIMS was the best choice for their cemetery.
After creating their new digital map, we migrated all of their historic cemetery data into the CIMS database. We're currently assisting Prairie Home Cemetery in the development of their natural burial section and several additional lots in the cemetery. Their burial data is available for viewing online in eCIMS.
Archdiocese of Milwaukee
In 2001, the Archdiocese of Milwaukee implemented CIMS for its operating cemeteries and mausoleums. The project was phased in over several years. The initial phase involved developing a custom application which was integrated with Great Plains accounting software. By integrating these two industry-leading software programs, the Diocese can now manage all cemetery functions from one interface.
Along with CIMS services, the Archdiocese has also utilized RAMAKER's engineering services over the past few years. Our company is responsible for services including grave design, land surveying and stormwater management for several cemeteries within the Archdiocese.
Town of Bedford
The Town of Bedford has four cemeteries totaling more than 40 acres and their records consisted of a variety of paper cards. We converted all their maps to a GIS data format and scanned all their cemetery records. The scanned records were entered into a database and linked to the image files through CIMS. This created a completely usable system with all cemetery information beginning on the day it was installed.
We provided implementation and training services as well. The data is accessed from three different locations via the Town of Bedford’s fiber network. Bedford also utilizes eCIMS software for viewing their data on the web; click here to view their eCIMS website.
Roselawn Cemetery has 110 acres and their records consisted of a variety of paper documents and maps. Our staff converted all their maps to a GIS data format and matched the data from their lot cards to the map. The scanned records were entered into a database and linked to the image files through CIMS. This created a completely usable system with all cemetery information beginning on the day it was installed. We provided implementation and training services as well as eCIMS services. Roselawn’s data is accessed from a server within the cemetery.
Southern Wisconsin Veteran's Memorial Cemetery
Union Grove, Wisconsin
We provided master planning, civil engineering, land surveying and geotechnical engineering services for the design of site improvements associated with the third phase of this 105-acre cemetery facility.
This facility will undergo a 25-acre expansion and rehabilitation of the existing burial grounds that will include over 2,000 additional graves and the associated roads, parking and accessory structures. Plans and construction documents also include a 1600-niche columbarium. The rehabilitation portion consists of correcting storm drainage issues as well as increasing the capacity issues of the existing storm water detention pond.
United States Air Force Academy Cemetery
USAF Academy, Colorado
The USAF Academy Cemetery had been using a combination of paper maps, GIS files, an Access database, and other customized databases to track their cemetery records and kiosk database. It had become difficult to keep information current in multiple places. Our staff assisted in the implementation of CIMS at the cemetery office and the CIMS Kiosk software at the cemetery.
In addition, RAMAKER hosts this data on an eCIMS website at: http://www.maps.ramaker.com/usafa/ so the public can look up information on cemetery records. All three of these software applications read from the CIMS database, so updating is an easy process.
