Red Hook Terminals

Newark, New Jersey

In August 2021, the Red Hook Container Terminal in Port Newark, New Jersey, took its first step toward zero emissions.

Red Hook and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey introduced 10 all-electric yard tractors that will transport shipping containers throughout the port. Ramaker provided design and engineering services for the ten electric charging stations that power Red Hook’s new fleet.

RSM Construction Group and BYD, along with several other suppliers, installers, and agencies, helped bring this innovative project to Port Newark. Red Hook’s 10 BYD tractors represent the largest fleet of completely electric shipping equipment at an East Coast port. The terminal plans to eliminate its dependency on diesel vehicles and transition to fully electric ones at Port Newark by 2025.

Ramaker is proud to have helped Red Hook take this important step toward reducing emissions and positively impacting their local Newark community. The terminal and the state of New Jersey’s investment in clean energy is setting a new standard not only for regional ports but also for climate-friendly initiatives across other major industries in the state.

Ramaker’s range of in-house architectural and engineering capabilities has made the firm a trusted partner for renewable energy projects across the country. The firm’s ability to manage all stages of implementation processes simplifies project management and increases efficiency, saving renewable energy partners time and money.
