New outdoor pool, bathhouse and concessions renovations

Thunder Hills Country Club

Peosta, IA

When the operations team at Thunder Hills Country Club in Peosta, Iowa, decided to replace the facility’s outdoor pool and renovate and expand the bathhouse and dining areas, they partnered with Ramaker for architectural design, aquatic design, surveying, and aquatic, civil, geotechnical, and MEPS engineering services. Having worked with Ramaker for the design and construction of a new wading pool in 2016, the operations team was familiar with Ramaker’s full-service architecture and engineering capabilities. Portzen Construction served as general contractor for the project.

The project included replacing Thunder Hills Country Club’s existing pool with a larger, family-friendly pool, extending the pool deck to accommodate the new design, and expanding and renovating the indoor food service, bar, and concessions area. The bar and dining cabana will now be open year-round for special events. They will also be used to host a virtual golf simulator.

Ramaker’s design team also worked with the owner of Thunder Hills Country Club as well as the State Department of Health to navigate a petition for variance. As a result, the design of the new pool was more cost-effective, allowing Thunder Hills Country Club to invest those savings in other aspects of the project.

The finished product is an elegant, resort-style pool as well as a refined indoor dining and concessions area for Thunder Hill Country Club’s members and their guests. These additions and updates complement the country club’s beautiful grounds and other recreational offerings.
