Replacement of historic steeple damaged in a fire
Holy Redeemer Church — Steeple Fire Repair
Madison, WI
Ramaker completed the structural replacement of the fire‑damaged steeple and spire at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Madison, Wisconsin. The project centered on rebuilding the historic wood‑framed steeple with a durable steel and cold‑formed‑steel framework while preserving the architectural character of the original structure.
Our team began with an on‑site investigation to document existing conditions and determine how the new steeple would connect to the church’s wood‑framed belfry. Working closely with ADCI, historical building agencies, and the project’s general contractor, Ramaker ensured that the replacement design honored the church’s historic appearance—including the replication of the original steeple’s form and its four iconic clock faces.
The new steeple was engineered to be constructed at ground level and lifted into place by crane, minimizing disruption to the building and surrounding site. Ramaker provided full structural design services for the steeple framework, the floor system at its base, and all connection points to the existing belfry framing. Comprehensive structural calculations, plans, and details supported fabrication and installation.
This project restored a defining architectural feature of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church while enhancing long‑term structural performance and resilience.
